Guide to the rooms at Disney’s Hotel Cheyenne

In a recent trip to Disneyland Paris we stayed at Disney’s Hotel Cheyenne. One of the value resorts on site, it’s no surprise that its great theming and reasonable price make it very popular! But what do you actually get in the rooms at Disney’s Hotel Cheyenne, and is it right for your Disney trip? We’re sharing all the details to help you decide here in this blog!

Overview

Details at Disney’s Hotel Cheyenne are designed to evoke the old west – even down to the artwork!

Disney’s Hotel Cheyenne is themed around towns in the American Wild West, with buildings named after famous western and Native American figures, and cowboy detailing everywhere! A refurb of the hotel a few years ago added some Toy Story theming, particularly of Woody, Jessie and Bullseye from Woody’s Roundup. As such this is a great hotel for fans of westerns, the old west, history, and of course Toy Story! Expect nods to the theme everywhere, from the lobby to the restaurants, to of course the rooms themselves.

Finding your room

He’ll be your huckleberry – Doc Holliday is just one of the western figures with a building named after them at Hotel Cheyenne

Hotel Cheyenne essentially sits in one long line. In the centre of the line are the hotel amenities in the main reception building – so here you’ll find your check-in desks, restaurant, shop, luggage services, and Starbucks (which has recently reopened – rejoice coffee fans!). Either side of the main reception are the resort room buildings, split into the South Corral and the North Corral. These sit either side of a main thoroughfare through the resort itself.

Each building has both its own name, and its own number. The names are taken from Old West stories, so you can find Calamity Jane, Billy the Kidd, Sitting Bull and Doc Holliday all rubbing shoulders here among others. If someone in your group is a massive fan of a particular western figure then maybe see if there’s a building named after them and request it! We’ve actually never requested a particular building here so if you try this we’d love to know how you get on. The building numbers also find themselves in the room numbers too – so if you’re in building 16 (that’s Annie Oakley by the way!), and you’re in the 33rd room, your room number is 1633. All the room numbers are clearly marked.

A few notes about the room positions in Hotel Cheyenne. Each of the buildings has ramp access – but the buildings don’t have lifts! So if you have mobility differences or you’re in a wheelchair make sure you inform Disney when you book – the last thing you need is to accidentally end up on the 1st floor (or 2nd floor for our American friends) if you can’t access it! Also the rooms in the Southern Corral (buildings 10-19) are closer to the theme parks, so it might be worth asking to be in these if you’re planning to walk rather than take the shuttle bus. If you’d like to balance proximity to the parks to proximity to the resort amenities we actually think building 19 (Billy the Kid) is probably the one to go for – it’s directly behind the main reception building and on the walking path to the theme parks.

Getting access to your room

Your Magicpass is your hotel room key and a lot more!

To unlock your room at Disney’s Hotel Cheyenne you’ll be given a key card. This card is actually your Magic Pass – as well as being your hotel room key it’s also your park ticket and is the record of how many dining credits you have if you’re on the meal plan. As such they’re pretty important – don’t lose them! And everyone in your group will also have one. This is handy if you need to split the group at any point with some heading to the room while the others hang out in the parks. (Or Disney Village. Or resort bar. Or wherever really.)

To turn the power on in your room you do need to pop one of the Magic Passes in the slot you’ll find just inside the door (it’s normally faintly illuminated so it’s not hard to spot). Remember to take the card out of the slot when you head to the parks or any dining, you’ll need it! I have heard of folks popping other cards in the slot when they were out the room to keep the power on so that may work, although I’ve also heard that Housekeeping will remove cards left in slots when they enter rooms to clean so I’m not sure this is a full-proof strategy. The reason Disney has these is that they help save electricity when you’re not in the room. We actually don’t think they’re a bad idea, the only real negative with them is that the fan and air conditioning won’t work without a card in the slot so it will be off when you return to the room.

Also side note – the Magicpasses are yours to keep! You don’t need to return them to reception when you check out (and if you’re heading into the parks the last day you won’t want to!). They make a nice souvenir.

What’s in the room

As a value resort the rooms at Hotel Cheyenne are small but have some amenities!

Hotel Cheyenne is a value resort – so the rooms aren’t exactly the lap of luxury! Think along the lines of a Travelodge or a Premier Inn in the UK with a lot nicer theming and you’ll be along the right lines.

As you enter the room on one side will be a space where you can hang items up, as well as a couple of large shelves. We’ve found this to be a great place to store our cases, purchases and other items. Also in this space is a little room safe with a keypad lock you can set if you want to use it.

On the other side as you come in the room (just past the slot for the key card for the power typically) is the door to the bathroom. The bathroom features one very large mirror. There’s a vanity with one sink, but there’s a lot of space on here for toiletries. There’s also a toilet (of course!) and a shower over a bath situation. You’ll also find in here your towels, and a few little amenities – handsoap, shampoo, conditioner and bodywash all themed to the resort. And on the wall is a built in hairdryer with shaver plug combo. Honestly, the hair dryer is a bit pants so if you have thick or long hair I’d recommend bringing your own. The shower pressure is okay – not great but liveable with. The only real complaint though we had with the bathroom is that the only lights in it really are above the mirror, so there’s no lighting above the bath / shower. To go with the theming they’ve gone for a faux wood tile effect here, but it does make this area very dark!

We found the bath / shower quite dark in the rooms, but like the theming touches!

In the main space you may have two European double beds, or one double bed and one sofa situation which can be pulled out into two single beds. We honestly much prefer the latter – as there’s only two of us in the room we can use the sofa for sitting, and with it folded away it makes the room feel much bigger. That is one thing we’ll say about the room is that it isn’t huge – which is kind of what you’d expect at a value resort! For two of us it’s fine, if it was four of you and you want to use the room for more than just washing and sleeping you might find it pushing your relationships a little!

TV, dresser and seat in Disney's Hotel Cheyenne in Disneyland Paris
Under the TV you’ll find your dresser, coffee and tea making facilities, plugs, and cowboy boot lamp!

With the two beds there’s a little seat, and then next to this a large dresser with six drawers. On top of this is a coffee maker and a kettle, and some coffee and tea making supplies too. You’ll also find some plugs up here for device charging. Above that is a large smart TV – it’ll give you a personalised greeting when you enter the room, and its main screen will play suitably western tunes and display information about the hotel. With it you can either choose to watch one of the TV channels or stream something. Sadly most of the English speaking channels have gone except BBC World News (but hey, you are in France), so you might resort to streaming if you’re English speaking and don’t fancy watching that all the time!

The room is completed by a bin, some coat hooks (handy for hanging up rain coats and the like), and a little unit thing with a space underneath. On this we had some free bottled water which we appreciated. We didn’t have that on another visit here though so not sure if that’s just for the summer or not. Also don’t miss the thermostat – unlike it’s value cousin Hotel Santa Fe, Hotel Cheyenne has air conditioning and you’ll want it in the summer! Just bear in mind that in France they do have laws about the temperature limits for air conditioning, so it may not get a cold as you’d like.

Theming wise you can find western details on bed runners and curtains, and there’s a Woody’s Roundup pattern around the top of the room walls. There’s also a canyon piece of art, and a lamp in the shape of a cowboy boot! (Say it with me, ‘There’s a snake in my… lamp?!’)

What are the beds like?

Bed and seat that folds out at Disney's Hotel Cheyenne at Disneyland Paris
Hotel Cheyenne offers rooms with two double beds, or one bed and one pull out seat!

Obviously after a long day in the parks you’ll want a decent sleep. And what are the beds like at Hotel Cheyenne? Honestly – fine.

The mattress was a little firm for me as I prefer a softer mattress, but most people will manage okay. Our only complaint about it is that the beds can be very creaky – just sitting on the bed or turning over made it groan a lot so something to bear in mind! Also European doubles tend to be smaller the double beds in the USA, so some folks might find the beds very small.

One thing we have heard (but not experienced) is that there’s less padding on the fold out beds to sleep on, but these are probably only really for little ones and hopefully they’ll manage just fine. And honestly after a long park day anywhere to sleep will probably do!

What’s not in the rooms

You do get some toiletries in the rooms at Hotel Cheyenne, but it might lack some other amenities

Hotel Cheyenne may be basic but is has most of what you need. However one thing that tends to confuse some visitors is that there isn’t a fridge!

Actually, fridges in hotel rooms in Europe aren’t massively popular and only a few spots around the Disneyland Paris resort offer them. I’m sure Disney would say part of the reason they’re not in all resort rooms is environmental. (Our more cynical sides also think it’s probably a lot cheaper for Disney on the energy front!) If you need to store any medication that needs refrigerating you can store it at reception, or you could use something like a Frio pack to keep it cool. (See our blog on visiting Disneyland Paris while on Mounjaro for more tips on storing medication, and our blog on all the support that Disneyland Paris can offer the differently-abled for an in depth look at the other resort amenities on offer to those that need it). For buying drinks on site there’s the hotel gift shop, Starbucks, and vending machines in with the laundry. This building also has an ice machine which could also be used to help keep things cool.

If you’re someone with a lot of devices to charge you might also feel a lack of USB sockets and plug sockets. As and when Hotel Cheyenne gets its next refurb I suspect there’ll be more added, in the meantime we recommend bringing with you something like a charging hub to manage – find details of what we recommend in our what to pack for Disneyland Paris blog.

Also a side note – if you have the pull out bed, you might think there’s no pillows for it. We hadn’t really thought about it until we found the pillows hidden in the drawers in the dresser! So make sure you check there if you’re looking for pillows. If you need any more then Housekeeping should be able to help.

Room views

Guests with views on the river will be able to see the path running from Hotel Cheyenne to the Disneyland Paris theme parks

Unsurprisingly the room views at Disney’s Hotel Cheyenne vary depending on where you’re staying in the hotel!

Many of the hotel buildings stretch along the river that runs from this hotel to Lake Disney, and then to Disney Village. If you’re on the water side of these buildings you’ll see the river, and Hotel Santa Fe peeking through the trees. These views are actually very pretty! On the other side of these buildings you’ll see the main thoroughfare that runs through the centre of the hotel, with views of either more hotel buildings on the other side, or the main Reception building. You’ll probably be able to spy some Western theming too!

Buildings on the otherside of the thoroughfare will see either this, or out the other side of the building towards the car parking. That sounds a bit boring but also at this side of the resort are most of the nature spaces that Disney have added to Hotel Cheyenne including orchards, nature walks, and gardens. So your view may be quite pretty!

Would we recommend it?

If you want a value hotel at Disneyland Paris, we think there’s a lot of positive signs pointing to Hotel Cheyenne

In a nutshell, yes! We think that Disney has pulled off the wild west theming really well here, especially for a value resort, and despite having a cheaper price point than many of the onsite hotels it still offers the Disney resort perks including the Magic Hour (when you can get into the parks one hour before regular park guests). But we recognise it won’t be for everybody.

Of the two value resorts at Disneyland Paris, Disney’s Hotel Cheyenne is the most expensive. That’s for a few reasons – it’s marginally closer to the theme parks than Disney’s Hotel Santa Fe, the rooms have slightly more amenities (the coffee maker for one), it’s a bit smaller of a resort (and easier to navigate) and (the big selling point for us) it has air conditioning! The price difference is reasonably small so for us the extra cost is worth it to stay at Cheyenne. But if you’re looking for the onsite Disney resort experience at the lowest possible price than Hotel Santa Fe is where you’ll want to go. You might also want to go there if you or someone in your group is more into the Cars franchise than Toy Story! Also we recognise that some might find the lack of lifts / elevators at Hotel Cheyenne off-putting, although those with mobility concerns can always request ground floor rooms.

Also the rooms at Hotel Cheyenne are pretty small, and the resort does lack the amenities of other more expensive hotels onsite (a pool, multiple restaurants etc). So if you’re planning a resort day or just wanted a slightly more plush experience (and your budget extends to it) you might want to look at the onsite moderate or deluxe resorts instead.

But in all honesty – we love Hotel Cheyenne. For its price point we think the level of theming is fantastic, we’ve had great experiences with the staff here, and we love the few amenities it has over Hotel Santa Fe next door. For us it’s our value resort of choice at Disneyland Paris.

We hope this blog has been helpful for those considering a stay at Disney’s Hotel Cheyenne! We do have a blog breaking down the room at Disney’s Hotel Santa Fe too, so if you’re weighing up the two options maybe head there next. We also plan to add the other resorts to our blog soon so please subscribe to stay up to date – you can do so at the top of the page!
