What we wished we had packed for Disneyland Paris

So we’ve recently returned from a 5 night, 6 day stay at Disneyland Paris. The main reason for the trip was to gather more content for this blog and our social media – so look out for that soon!

In a recent blog we shared the things we make sure we pack for Disneyland Paris that we think others might miss. But hey, we’re not perfect! And there were a few things we wish we’d packed for this trip, but didn’t. So we’re sharing those with you now so you don’t make the same mistake!

Waterproof foldable blanket for benches

Spotting Santa Goofy can brighten up the day, even when your feet hurt!

It’s no secret than in Disneyland Paris you’ll be walking a lot. So everyone should seize the chance to grab a bit of rest on a bench when they can! But most of the benches are outside, and we had a few times when we wanted to sit down but found it tricky to find a dry bench. You can get small, compact and foldable blankets that we could have used to protect ourselves from the bench – and we wished we packed one! We have one from the brand Matador which is great, and we’ll be taking it on future trips! You can find it on Amazon here: https://amzn.to/3RxOMTL

Compression socks for both feet

Our walking stats for one day – and this wasn’t the busiest!

Among the many things that make me differently-abled is that I have lymphoedema in my left foot, which means it tends to swell in hot weather or when I’ve been standing a lot. As such I tend to wear a compression stocking to help with this. (Attractive? No. Practical? Yes!) But as you can see the snip of my activity app above, the amount of standing and walking in Disneyland Paris is A LOT, and this wasn’t even our worse day! So of course my right foot decided to get in on the party, and I had some impressive cankles going on. I’d suggest compression socks for everyone – you can get some fun designs now, and it’ll help support your feet and reduce pressure. You can get multipacks with fun designs on Amazon here: https://amzn.to/4cLKQZ4 (If you’re visiting in hot weather they can also help prevent the ‘Disney rash’ when some of the minor blood vessels in the legs and feet burst).

Squeezy squash to add to water

Cups of orange fizzy drink in Stark Factory in Disneyland Paris
It’s not easy to find flavoured, non-fizzy or sugary soft drinks in Disneyland Paris!

You can find soft drinks all around Disneyland Paris. But they tend to be fizzy, or caffeinated, or full of sugar, or some combination of the above. If you want a sugar free soft drink you’re really looking at Coke Zero. Now, as a fizzy drink monster I don’t mind this much (although I’ll admit it’s not the most hydrating!). But my husband struggles with fizzy drinks, and tries to avoid caffeine where he can. And being diabetic, he also likes to avoid too much sugar. But he also struggles with plain water. So he was definitely on the struggle bus when it came to drinks this trip! Next time we’ll be sure to pack one of those little bottles of squeezy squash so that he can flavour his water and not just rely on soft drinks that don’t really agree with him. Robinsons of course tends to be the most popular: https://amzn.to/4jUzzbx

Compact and foldable reusable bag

Your wallet may feel its been to Neverland and back with the many souvenirs at Disneyland Paris!

When it comes to sustainability, Disneyland Paris are really trying hard – in this respect they’re definitely ahead of their US counterparts! This includes things such as reusable cups in counter service restaurants (and no you’re not supposed to take them home!), and reusable tableware. And this also extends to the fact that you can’t get a free plastic bag! Disney do sell some nice reusable ones of various sizes in their shops, but they don’t fold down that small and the cost of them can really add up after a few purchases. We wished we’d taken one of the compact and foldable bags we usually have at home – they don’t take up much space and could have saved us a bit of money! We really like Nanobags like this one: https://amzn.to/3REk0IR but you can get much cheaper ones if you prefer: https://amzn.to/4cLL9TI

Fidget toys and distraction aids

Patting a bat as a form of distraction only really works in Phantom Manor!

The Disney parks can be a lot. There’s a lot of people, a lot of noise, visuals, smells… it can be an overwhelming experience. I made sure to wear my fidget ring that I could play with when the crowds got too much, but my husband wished he’d brought some fidget aids too to help him with the crowds. So make sure all fidget toys and aids are packed and handy! If you can it’s probably best to avoid anything too noisy to prevent annoying other guests. Ken likes using fidget toys like these elsewhere: https://amzn.to/3RAVacL

Foldable travel pillow for my lower back

Pair of seats on Eurostar train
The Eurostar standard class seats can be uncomfortable if you have back issues

To get to Disneyland Paris we took the Eurostar from London to Gard du Nord. As a nervous flier I much prefer this route and there’s a lot to like about Eurostar. But the seats in standard class have no lumbar support what so ever, and it makes it a very uncomfortable two and a half hours! On the way out I tried using my folded hoodie to support my back, for the way back I actually bought one of the cuddleez toys to act as my back pillow (this worked surprisingly well!). But before my next trip I’ll definitely be trying to find a compact travel pillow for my lower back. Let us know if you have recommendations!

So that’s where we messed up! Hopefully this will help you with your planning. Anything you think we’ve forgotten? What are you Disneyland Paris essentials? Let us know!
